NFB-CA San Jose Chapter Meeting Notes
4/17/2021

Participants:

Brian Q

Brian B

Nancy

John

Jamie

Kyle

Fundraising:

   -

Brian B expressed concerns about RallyUp as a fundraising/event hosting
   platform. They follow:
   -

Two models to choose from: Paid model, or free model. Free model
presents donors with the *option* to donate to RallyUp when they
donate to
      your org.
      -

RallyUp does all their payment processing through Stripe. We would
need the state to sign up with Stripe in order to get payments
as nonprofit
      entity.
      -

We can ask Tim if we can use the State’s 501(c) status to to
         process our donations.
         -

We can use RallyUp’s free tier to save on their costs.
         -

Kyle to help with RallyUp site creation. Jamie can help, too.
         -

   Presidential Release:
   -

Reminder: Share experiences about COVID vaccine and testing access
      via the survey at nfb.org.
      -

Lyft will partner with NFB to provide ride credits for blind people
to travel to COVID vaccine sites. Yay!
      -

Access Tech Affordability Act has *lots* of sponsors in both the
house and the senate! Continues gaining momentum.
      -

HR-1 and S-1 “For the People” Act: Has passed the house and is being
considered in the senate, but the NFB has concerns. Details of this bill
has issues that do not protect the voting rights of blind citizens,
including items already built into the Help America Vote Act. We need
affiliates to help leverage a letter we are sending to Congress to urge
amendments to the bill that protect our accessibility rights! Call your
representatives to let your senators know that you back the NFB.
If you can
set up meetings to discuss the matter with your senator, please
invite Jeff
Kaloc, jkaloc at nfb.org, to those meetings.
      -

Survivor Task Force Update: We’ve successfully trained over 250
members/leaders of the NFB through RAINN. Two open calls open to all
members coming this month with the Task Force to discuss the code of
conduct. April 15 and April 18 from 8-10PM EST. More info at
      nfb.org/survivors
      -

Officially announcing the establishment of the NFB Blind Muslims
Group! You can join the list serve at nfb-muslims at nfb.org
      -

Visit nfb.org/CENA for information on registration for an upcoming
pair of trainings on Accessibility Testing, and on Google Workspace
      products.
      -

Some changes this year regarding resolutions process at Convention.
Resolutions must be sent to the chairperson 30 days before the Res.
Committee Meeting (no latter than June 7). If you miss this deadline, you
can still submit resolutions if you have the support of at least
3 members
of the resolutions committee. You can submit resolutions or ask questions
      by e-mailing resolutions at nfb.org
      -

      Next meeting is May 15!
      -

Some discussion about when to resume meeting in person. It will be
some time after Convention (so at the earliest, August). Decided to hold
discussion via the mailing list so everyone can share their thoughts.
