Hello. Here are the minutes from the March 28, 2020 meeting.

Sincerely,

Brian Buhrow, President, NFB San Jose Chapter, NFB of California

Meeting was convened via Zoom, due to Corona Virus, by President Brian
Buhrow at 3PM on Saturday 03/28/2020.

1. Attendees: Jamie Principato, Nanci Amolsch, Brian Buhrow, Tim Elder,
John Vandervort, Kyle Garcia, Brian Quintana and one member from the At Large Chapter who
lives in the East Bay.

2. Brian thanked Jamie for hosting the Zoom meeting.

3. Discussed the agenda item we didn't have today. We were to have a
person come to our meeting from Samsung to discuss the possibility of
making an application for the blind. Brian discussed the notion of trying
to gently, but firmly, persuade him to think about how he might go about
getting Samsung to make its existing product lines, particularly its line
of home appliances, more accessible. The NFB has been trying to get the
Access Board to promulgate a set of accessibility standards for home
appliances. Currently, this is Bill H.R.3929. Brian will report on its
status in a future piece of e-mail.
When we know we will meet again, we will reach out to Samsung to see
if they are still interested in attending one of our meetings.

4. Last month, Brian brought up the idea of trying to form groups of
members, and non-members, who want to get together to learn a particular
skill. Ronit said she'd never barbecued before on a gril and would like to
learn how to do it. Jamie reiterated that she'd not done it either, as
did several others at today's meeting. We will take it as an action item
to plan a meeting this summer, or when ever we can get together again, to
have a barbecue at a park and teach each other how to grill food.
Other things folks said they wanted to learn to do:

O Learn how to change a tire on a car.

O Learn how to make table legs for a table.

O Learn how to solder.

I know there were other ideas that I'm failing to mention. Please
feel free to add ideas to this thread so we can figure out the best way to
orchestrate a teachine methodology.

5. John Vandervort would like the chapter to fund raise. This is a very
important thing for us to be doing. If you have ideas on what we might do
to raise funds that would be fun and, hopefully, profitable, please send
them along.
We will discuss them at our next meeting.

6. If you haven't done so, please listen to the two Presidential releases
from March 2020. The second release concerns the steps NFB is taking to
work with the changes brought by the Corona Virus. As of this writing, the
National Center is closed and no face-to-face meetings are occurring at
this time. There will be a live call in session on Thursday April 2, at
5PM Pacific, 8PM Eastern, where members can call in to listen to the
national leadership discuss how we can continue our work of outreach and
advocacy in the time of Corona Virus. Details for this meeting will be
posted in a separate e-mail.

7. right now, our next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Saturday April
18, 2020 at 3:00PM. Given that it is highly unlikely we'll be back to
business as usual by that date, it is most probable that we'll have that
meeting via Zoom as well. However, we'll post details as the date
approaches.

8. Adjourn.
