Jamie: definitely an interesting topic that I have been a part of on a limited basis in the past. Some of the responses surprised me at the time and some of the discussion was somewhat heated. At the heart of it this a personal choice and one's own logic/decision making is just that - a personal choice.

I lost the first half of my vision as an infant with retinal blastoma and the other half of my vision as a working adult; these days they can test the fetus prior to birth for the Rb gene; not sure if they can treat in utero or after birth but I would say cure for sure.

Then again, those who have been blind from birth I have heard say that they have had a very happylife, have never known vision and have become very important advocates in the disability community - for them I now understand why they would say no.

It is the loss of vision for older adults due to macular degeneration  and similar events that I think cure would be best since at that age it is more difficult to learn ADL skills, technology and so on.

Anyway, look forward to the get together in December

Hey folks. I want to definitely make time at our upcoming meeting to share a recap and highlights from state convention, and talk about plans for a holiday get together in December, but some recent events in my own life bring up an interesting topic I thought I’d propose as a fun philosophy discussion.
