Thanks, Tim!
Sure, Brian. I think what is usually done in chapters all over that have a
facebook presence is just that the facebook page and the mailing list are
complementary, but not identical. The mailing list is still the primary
source of official chapter information. But someone maintains the facebook
page and ensures that major announcements go there as well. I dont
personally think its desirable to re-post messages individuals leave on our
facebook page to the mailing list because it undermines their choice in how
to engage, and may even defeat the purpose of creating a new channel for
engagement. Also, while you could pull messages from Facebook and put them
on the mailing list, you wouldn't be able to effectively go the other way
when non-Facebook users want to reply. The best thing to do is make sure
everyone who finds our facebook page is made aware of the mailing list
(probably through a pinned post and some individual invitation through
conversation) and is encouraged to join. These two streams would not be in
competition eith each other though. They would just be complementary
channels to help engage more people where they are. A great example of this
is NABS. They have a strong facebook presence, and yet still have an
incredibly active and vibrant mailing list which is obviously their primary
channel.
