Presidential Release
-
Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act went into effect on March 1, 2021!
100% of all hybrid electric vehicles manufactured as of today must make a
sound! Learn more from the April 2017 Braille Monitor where this
issue was
first discussed.
-
Washington Seminar: We doubled our support in Congress for the Access
Tech Affordability Act!
-
There will soon be a survey on NFB.org to gather data on
accessibility of COVID-19 testing and vaccine sign-up. Please share your
experiences to help us overcome barriers to testing and vaccines
for blind
people.
-
Independence Market Product of the Month: Kenneth Jernigan puzzle map
of the united states. Very impressive tactile piece!
-
NFB BELL Academy will be in-home again this year with options for
beginners, intermediate, and advanced Braille students.
Applications opened
on March 1st at NFB.org/bell. Space is limited.
-
National Convention: Registration for 2021 convention opened on March
1st, nfb.org/registration. Registration is FREE this year again.
Donations are optional.
-
Registration by May 31 is necessary if you want to vote or be
eligible for door prizes.
-
Please send along any ideas for the convention content to President
Riccobono via e-mail! We want to make this convention as awesome as
possible.
-
NFB Virtual Choir is happening again this year! Rehearsals are every
Friday at 8PM Eastern through April! We’ll be learning 3 pieces
to showcase
at convention this year. Registration is open now at nfb-pad.org.
Register by April 5 to participate!

Fundraising
-
Thanks, Jamie and Brian Q, for researching fundraising strategies!
-
Brian B. is now on a fundraising committee and has some ideas for our
first strategy.
-
Question: Pre-canned virtual event website or create our own?
-
Question: What does everyone think of a virtual event vs. a
restaurant fundraiser or sales?
-
Responses: Hosting a virtual event also gives us opportunities for
outreach and public messaging about blindness. A virtual event that’s
activity focused sounds more fun.
-
We could put up our own event page in a month or so, spend a month
promoting on social media, and then hold a month-long even
like a walkathon
or fitness challenge, etc.
-
Could accept donations in lump sums, or as pledges per mile, per
minute, per pushup, or whatever.
-
NABS did something similar using RallyUp.com to collect pledges
and payments. National Braille Press is doing it all more
manually using
google forms and the honor system. When our chapter did
auctions, Brian set
up the payment processing backend himself. Options!
