Hi,
Sorry I didn’t make the meeting, but I do have some ideas for possible guest speakers for future meetings.
1. My friend Jake who works for Guide Dogs for the Blind and also volunteers for Ski for Light.
2. Art Schriber, former president of the NFB of my home state of New Mexico. He was a CBS reporter before losing his sight, traveled with Apollo NASA astronauts, the Beetles, and LBJ and has some fascinating stories.
3. My friend Brittany Culp who is a blind bikini body-builder from Texas and who participates in local and national competitions and who is a personal trainer
4. My friend Joe Hodge who works for APH and is up-to-date with the latest in technology, both for the blind and in general
Maybe we can discuss these opportunities during our next meeting.
Have a great week,
Brian Q

Washington Seminar Recap:
* Lots of turnout from our chapter! We made all of our appointments.
* The virtual format allowed us to extend beyond the week of Washington Seminar proper, and ensure that we can find time to schedule with everyone on our list!
* One of our meetings included an entourage of kids, including all of Brian B’s 8th grade history students and the children of some of our chapter members! This went over really well with the congresswoman we met that morning, and at least some of the kids were excited about what they were witnessing.
Fundraising:
* A few ideas:
* Fast-casual delivery restaurant fundraiser
* Fundraising sales like coupon books (great idea from John), popcorn, etc
* Virtual event with entry fee/sponsorship/donations virtual 5k, walkathon, trivia contest (idea from Tim), fitness challenge
* Can have a series of fundraisers instead of picking just one
* Jamie will research virtual event logistics, will send out notes on next steps
Presidential Release:
* Check out our 10th anniversary refresh of the Blind Driver Challenge at blinddriverchallenge.org<http://blinddriverchallenge.org>
* We launched a Diversity and Inclusion Survey to get as much honest feedback as possible about how we’re doing to inform an initial training session on anti-bias for all leaders of the federation
* On March 8th, we’ll be holding an open diversity forum. Info should be coming over the mailing lists.
* Kenneth Jernigan had a particular taste for cornbread and a special way of making it. You can buy a Kenneth Jernigan Cornbread Kit to make your own from the Independence Market.
* If you have been laid off in the past two years, please fill out a survey about unemployment websites at nfb.org/legal<http://nfb.org/legal> to help the NFB better advocate for the needs of blind people who file for unemployment.
Gatherings with Other Chapters:
* Brian reached out to Christina in SF to see if we want to have an event combining both our chapters.
* We could also reach out to Central Valley, Sacramento, etc
Outside Speakers:
* Would like to see if anyone is interested in inviting outside speakers to our meetings.
* Might be useful to see what topics of interest are relevant to members? Some ideas that came up include sports and recreation opportunities for blind Californians, info about local Goal Ball, Ski for Light, Tactile Art? Feel free to share more ideas in the e-mail list!
