At that time, blind persons could get guide dogs through the<br>mail and with Braille manuals for training purposes. Some of our pioneers in<br>the blindness movement sought legislation to create this much needed Board.<br><br>The Board cut the schools down to three which we have today. <br><br>Our presenters today will be Board President Eric Holm and the Executive<br>Officer, Antonette Sorric.<br><br>Please read more about these fine people below.<br><br>Board President Eric Holm, after serving as a volunteer, speaker, and<br>independent consultant with Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc., was appointed by<br>Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the State Board of Guide Dogs for the<br>Blind, on October 29, 2008 and elected Board President on October 25, 2010.<br>Holm graduated from Saint Mary's College (BA), San Francisco Law School<br>(JD), and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. Holm served as a<br>Federal Adjudications Officer for the US. Department of Justice and the U.S<br>Department of Homeland Security. Holm also held the position of Vice<br>President and Chief Stewart of the American Federation of Government<br>Employees Local 1616. Holm actively engages as a member of the National<br>Federation of the Blind and the Bay Area Association of Disabled Sailors.<br>Presently, Holm also serves on the City of San Rafael Park & Recreation<br>Commission and the City's ADA & Accessibility Advisory Committee, educating<br>and advancing the rights and responsibilities of persons with disabilities.<br>Ford, Holm's beautiful Yellow Labrador, nurtured and trained at Guide Dogs<br>for the Blind, assists him in living life to the fullest.<br><br>Executive Officer, Antonette Sorrick has served as Deputy Director for Board<br>Relations for the Department of Consumer Affairs since 2005.
