Edison got out last night. The guy from Clark
Pest Control left our gate wide open and Edison was just gone. Velvet and
I looked around the neighborhood in the wind and rain, then I called the police
and animal control while Velvet drove around the university campus. She
came home, stood in the front yard and plaintively called his name and there he
was. He looked like the saddest dog in the world with his head down and
his tail still. A cursory examination didn't reveal any wounds and he
didn't flinch as I touched his legs stomach and head. There was something
about his spine that didn't feel right. He was just tired. There's a
woman lives a block from us who has a huge boll of cat food in her yard on the
theory that if the cats are full, they won't bother the song birds. She's
right in a measure. Our neighborhood has more pigeons, crows and starlings
than anybody else in town-- but I digress. It smelled as if Edison had
eaten all that cat food. It must have been Edison's breathing that
awakened me around 1:am. It was so fast and shallow. I took him out
and saw that he was urinating. Later, I fed him some nuggets of kibble
which he took and appreciated. Still there was that arch to his
spine. We took him to the vet this morning. There is liver
involvement. Edison could have been poisoned, kicked or hit by a
car. Dr. Basra wants a better x-ray before doing an ultra sound.
Then we'll see. My poor sweet dog; I'm writing this because I have to be
doing something. Hold a thought for Edison will you? Thanks.
