dog outside, owner told<BR><BR>By Steve Evans<BR><BR>DARRAN PRIDMORE is
registered blind - but he and his guide dog were three <BR>times refused service
at a Nuneaton petrol station.<BR><BR>He says he was asked to take his faithful
companion Duke outside and was <BR>amazed that no-one in the queue behind him
offered any kind of support.<BR><BR>Mr Pridmore, aged 30, of Park Avenue,
Attleborough, has now brought the <BR>incident to the attention of the Guide
Dogs for the Blind Association in the <BR>hope of raising awareness of the
problems faced by people who are visually <BR>impaired.<BR><BR>He and his
girlfriend called at the Central Avenue petrol station, in <BR>Central Avenue,
Abbey Green, to get some petrol last Thursday evening.<BR><BR>Mr Pridmore said:
"While she was filling up, I went into the shop to pay.<BR><BR>"As a
partially-sighted person, I was assisted by my guide dog, Duke.<BR><BR>"I was
asked three times by the person serving to take my guide dog outside <BR>and was
refused service.<BR><BR>"After the third time of being asked, I requested a
written statement by the <BR>manager explaining why I was being asked to do
this.<BR><BR>"Only then was I allowed to pay for the fuel. I then
left."<BR><BR>He said he was particularly disappointed with the reaction of
other people <BR>in the queue.<BR><BR>He said: "Throughout, nobody in the queue
behind me offered any support. <BR>It's so disappointing that in this day and
age this type of incident can <BR>occur.<BR><BR>"It shows a complete lack of
respect for these very special and talented <BR>dogs whose contribution to their
owner is priceless."<BR><BR>What the boss of the garage said<BR><BR>AFAQUE
CHAUDRY, the petrol station manager, told the Nuneaton Telegraph that <BR>he was
"crushingly embarrassed and absolutely flabbergasted" to learn of the
<BR>incident.<BR><BR>He said: "This must have been totally humiliating for the
gentleman <BR>concerned and I can only apologise."<BR><BR>Mr Chaudry said the
shop assistant who served Mr Pridmore was almost <BR>certainly an immigrant
worker, who was not aware of their policy regarding <BR>guide dogs.<BR><BR>He
added: "I am absolutely horrified to hear about this and I will <BR>discipline
the person involved."<BR><BR>He said he hoped to meet Mr Pridmore to apologise
to him in person.<BR><BR><A
