Shannon *From:* NFBNet-Members-List *On Behalf Of *Young, Justin via NFBNet-Members-List *Sent:* Thursday, January 16, 2025 6:46 AM *To:* nfbnet-members-list at nfbnet.org *Subject:* [Nfbnet-members-list] Time-Sensitive Legislative Alert - January 16, 2025 Dear Federation Family, On December 4, 2024, the US Department of Labor released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) regarding the phaseout of Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act. The National Federation of the Blind fully supports this NPRM and submitted comments on Wednesday, January 15. The NPRM has received thousands of individual comments from those in favor of keeping subminimum wages for people with disabilities. We apologize that we did not anticipate such a substantial response from these individuals who support subminimum wages. As a result, we have an urgent request for our members to submit comments by the deadline of 11:59 p.m. on Friday, January 17. All comments are helpful even if the comment is, "I believe people with disabilities should be paid at least the minimum wage, and 14(c) certificates should be phased out.? All public comments should be submitted using the online form found at https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2024/12/04/2024-27880/employment-of-workers-with-disabilities-under-section-14c-of-the-fair-labor-standards-act#open-comment. The page contains a place for you to type in your comment, and then you will need to select that you are an individual, which will bring up fields for you to type in your first and last name. You will then need to check a box acknowledging you are aware any information you provide will be publicly available on regulations.gov before clicking ?submit.? Again, we apologize for the last-minute notice. Thank you for all your hard advocacy on this matter. Justin T. Coloradans who use rideshare and who have encountered discriminatory behavior from Uber drivers because of their guide dogs will welcome this opportunity to hear about the new self-identification option that is now available in the latest version of the Uber app. I have taken the liberty of cleaning up important links that are included in the email so that they will be easier to activate if you choose to do so. Kind regards, Curtis Chong From: NAGDU nagdu-bounces at nfbnet.org On Behalf Of Raul Gallegos - NAGDU via NAGDU Sent: Friday, January 31, 2025 11:10 AM Subject: Uber Self-ID feature update Hello everyone. Please share this wherever appropriate. Last night, January 30, 2025, NAGDU hosted a town hall, facilitated by Al Elia, NAGDU board member, regarding the Uber Self-ID project. Our guest was Briana Gilmore from Uber. Briana provided an overview of what Self-ID is, how it's used, what it's meant to help with, and how riders can optionally opt-in to use it. I am happy to report that this feature is ready for use. Please note, this feature is completely optional, and it can be disabled at any time. To get started, open your Uber app, go to Account, then Settings, then Accessibility, then Service Animal, and follow the prompts. Please note that in the edit field where you type in how your service animal helps you, there is a 20-character limit. Unfortunately, this might not be obvious. For me, typing the two words, guide dog, was enough. If for some reason, you are not able to see this feature, or the buttons in this area of the app are not reading correctly with Voice Over and/or Talk Back, you may need to remove and reinstall the Uber app to fix this. We will be posting information, as well as an FAQ on the NAGDU page. Meanwhile, you can listen to the recording from the following link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-BU65jS5t-_pMk8DqydGfmrexGtD22bf/view?usp=s haring If you have questions about this new feature, feel free to write the NAGDU Board, mboard at nagdu.org . Also, if you have any accessibility barriers about the accessibility of the Uber app, please email rgallegos at nagdu.org and provide as much information as possible so that Uber can use the feedback provided to address the accessibility issues reported.
