Subject: GDB - Survey Regarding Dog Attacks

Greetings GDB Alumni,

The California Council of the Blind is working to strengthen legislation
regarding attacks on service animals. They have asked GDB to assist in
gathering information from our graduates regarding this issue, so we have
assisted them in creating a survey. Although this is California specific
legislation GDB is also interested in gathering more information about this
subject which is why we are asking all of our grads across the US and Canada
to complete the survey referenced below.

Here is the note and link to the survey from the California Council of the
Blind.

Under California service dog protection laws, criminal penalties and payment
of restitution for specified expenses can be imposed against a dog owner
whose dog attacks a service animal, including a guide dog. However, these
provisions do not protect guide dogs when they are not in discharge of their
duties. For example, if you are relieving your dog, and it is out of
harness, an attack by another dog would not be covered under these laws.
The California Counsel of the Blind is submitting legislation to enhance the
protection of service animals regardless of whether they are working or not.
It is our belief that a service animal is very valuable and should be
protected at all times. We would very much appreciate it if you would take
a moment to take this very short survey. Click on the link below to access
the survey.
