Most of you know my wife Velvet has progressive limb girdle muscular dystrophy. Walking has always been difficult for her, but she's always willing to try anything. Sometimes this works to her own detriment. A particularly officious pharmacist denied her a prescribed medication because it was out of the formulary for her insurance provider. They wouldn't even let me buy this stuff, and her doctor advised that we just do some checking and in general give our drug store a hard time. One result of all this medicine on the cheap was that it allowed an infection to develop. Velvet's fallen three times this week and couldn't get up this morning. She is feverish and weaker than I've ever seen her; so she's in hospital now. I hope she's well enough that we can travel to see the grand kids over the memorial day week end. I'm worried and feel so helpless. I gotta go. See you on the phone. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... TSA?s Disability Branch wanted to make you aware of some recent news from TSA that your organization might find interesting. Please feel free to share it! TSA travel tips for the Memorial Day holiday weekend WASHINGTON ? With over 2.6 million people expected to fly over the Memorial Day travel period, the Transportation Security Administration reminds travelers to prepare and plan ahead for the security screening process by visiting tsa.gov or using the My TSA mobile app. TSA screens approximately 1.8 million passengers each day at more than 450 airports nationwide. During major holidays, including the Memorial Day travel period, TSA sees a spike in the number of passengers screened at airport checkpoints across the country. According to the AAA, airports and airlines anticipate 2.6 million air travelers nationwide during this holiday period, an increase from 2.4 percent in 2013. Passenger preparedness can have a significant impact on wait times at security checkpoints nationwide. To facilitate the security screening process, TSA is reminding travelers to arrive early to the airport and follow these tips: ? Know before you go: TSA?s summer travel page provides useful information to help ease travel through the airport security checkpoints this season. ? 3 ? 1 ? 1 for liquids: Liquids, gels, aerosols, creams and pastes must be 3.4 ounces or less and all bottles must fit in a single quart size plastic bag and placed in a bin for screening. This includes sun block and tanning sprays. ? Check for prohibited items: Use the ?Can I bring my?? app to check what items are allowed/ not allowed in carry?on and checked luggage. Smartphone users can easily download the ?My TSA? app to quickly find helpful information about TSA policies and procedures. ? Prepare for security: Have an acceptable ID and boarding pass out and remove large electronics including laptops and the 3-1-1 compliant liquids bag, from carry-on baggage. ? TSA Pre??: TSA Pre?? is an expedited screening program that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 complaint liquids/gels bag in a carry-on, in select screening lanes. Those eligible for TSA Pre?? can participate at 118 airports when traveling on a participating airline: Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America. TSA has also opened more than 260 application centers nationwide, allowing more U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents the opportunity to participate in TSA Pre??. Interested travelers can pre-enroll at tsa.gov. ? TSA Pre?? for U.S. Armed Forces: TSA offers TSA Pre?? expedited screening to all members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including those serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Reserves and National Guard. Eligible members of the U.S. Armed Forces on personal or official travel do not need to travel in uniform to participate. Accompanying family members ages 12 and under can be processed through expedited screening as well. To participate, enter the DoD ID number in the known traveler number field while making flight reservations. Learn about the requirements and additional screening information. ? TSA Cares: Travelers or families of passengers with disabilities and medical conditions may call the TSA Cares helpline toll free at 1-855-787-2227 with any questions about screening policies, procedures and what to expect at the security checkpoint 72 hours prior to traveling. Injured service members and veterans including individuals associated with a wounded warrior program may contact TSA Cares to help facilitate the screening process. If you are over the age of 18 and consider yourself a highly proficient braille reader, you are invited to participate in a research study during the upcoming NFB convention in Orlando. The study will take approximately one hour, and I will be using a high-resolution tracking system to record what your fingers do while you are reading. This system consists of an infrared camera mounted above the tabletop, and a small, nonobtrusive device that you will wear on the backs of your hands. You will first be asked to read naturally, both on paper and on a Braille display. You will next be asked to read a series of words and sentences, and to perform simple tasks like identifying errors, identifying words, and answering basic questions about what you are reading. The tracking system will collect information about your finger movements, reading speed, and reaction times. Prior to the study, you will be given a short survey about your background and experiences reading braille. Your identity will be kept confidential, and the data will be made anonymous. You will be compensated for completion of the study by your choice of a $40 gift card from either iTunes or Amazon.com. If you have questions or are interested in participating in the study, please contact me, Dr. Robert Englebretson, by e-mail at reng at rice.edu (or by phone at 713-348-4776) and I will send you information for how to sign up. -- ****************************************************************** Dr. Robert Englebretson *Associate Professor and Graduate Advisor* Dept. of Linguistics, MS23 Rice University 6100 Main St. Houston, TX 77005-1892 Phone: 713 348-4776 E-mail: reng at rice.edu http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~reng _______________________________________________ Nfbnet-members-list mailing list Nfbnet-members-list at nfbnet.org List archives: From judotina48kg at gmail.com Wed May 28 07:16:13 2014 From: judotina48kg at gmail.com (Tina Thomas) Date: Wed, 28 May 2014 07:16:13 -0700 Subject: [Cagdu] FW: Healthy dog treats Message-ID: <01cd01cf7a7f$6291a0a0$27b4e1e0$@gmail.com> Subject: Healthy dog treats >From the Good Treats for Dogs by Barbara Burg: Chicken Ginger Biscuits 2 cups whole wheat flour 1 half cup wheat germ 1 Tablespoon ground ginger 1 half cup chicken broth 1 egg, slightly beaten 1 quarter cup veg. oil Preheat oven to 375. In a medium bowl, combine flour, wheat germ, ginger. Second bowl, combine broth, egg, oil. Add the dry ingredients to the we and mix until well blended. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough and roll out to quarter inch thickness. Place biscuits on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 25 minutes. You know that I play with this recipe- you can use a different flour if you don't want the dog eating wheat. Wheat germ does have vitamin E in it. And sometimes you make little roll outs instead of cutting with a cookie cutter. _______________________________________________ Seeingeye-l mailing list To post a message.
