[Cagdu] FW: CAGDU brochure

[tina thomas]

The front of the brochure shows the Whozit logo, with "National Federation
of the Blind of California, California Association of Guide Dog Users."

The first inside panel has some quotes from guide dog users and reads:

"Guide Dogs are not robots, they do not automatically take us wherever we
need to go.
They are, however, smart well-trained, and loving animals that help us get
from one point to another safely and quickly by our commands."
Robert and Wonder (which we can change to the new dog)

"Guide dogs are not pets or show animals for everyone to pet and praise.
Guide dogs are intelligent certified dogs guides that have been through
intensive training in order to assist blind people with travel. They should
only be praised by their handler. We would love to educate you about them,
just ask us."
   Juliet and Marley

"Guide dogs are not deprived slaves. They are well loved, exercised and
played with. They even get healthy portions at mealtimes. They play often
and get out more than domesticated dogs. All and all, a guide dog’s life is
pretty good."
  Luis and Alabama

The first two (left side) inside panels read:

  Who We are:
We're proud to be a part of National Federation of the Blind of California,
the local affiliate of the nation's oldest, and largest organization of the
blind in the United States. Founded in 1940, the National Federation of the
Blind has grown to over 50,000 members with local chapters and state
affiliates in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

We are a forum for guide dog users who currently use a guide dog to travel
independently, or those considering getting a guide dog, or who want to
learn more about the use of such dogs and the guide dog movement in general.
We provide a forum to permit those interested in the guide dog movement to
discuss common issues, and to increase opportunities for those who have
chosen to use a guide dog for independent travel. We also promote sound
practices in the training and use of such dogs for mobility.

We also promote various guide dog training programs and to enlighten both
the general public, guide dog users, and the blind in general to the special
access legislation allowing a blind person to enter public places
accompanied by their guide dogs.

The California Association of Guide Dog Users holds it's business meeting
during the annual convention of the National Federation of the Blind of
California. Those who attend receive the latest information regarding the
training and use of guide dogs by the blind, and news of CAGDU's activities
during the past year, and to set the agenda for projects and outreach
activities for the year ahead.

For more information about CAGDU, or how to become a member, call the NFBC
state office at 877-558-6524.

The third inside panel (far right) reads:

CIVIL CODE – Section 54 – Persons using a white cane or a guide dog have
equal rights to full access to all places that the public is invited.
