Hello everyone- From what I understand the issue with the dog guide is that
there is an instructor who has allergies to dogs and other elements and she
has asked the student with the dog guide to put the dog in another
classroom for the time that the student is in her class. However, the
student is aloud to have the dog guide with for the rest of the time in the
center, with the exception of O&M class. I haven't had an opportunity to
read the center's policy as of yet, but I will have it read by the time we
have our meeting on Sunday Dec. 13/09 at 6:30PM.
Happy Holidays to all.

Subject: [Cagdu] Guide Dog policy
Hello Cagdu Community,
I read the policy that OCB has regarding Guide Dogs, as well as the message
from the acting director from OCB who stated, that if we have suggestions,
that he would be interested in hearing from us.
I think that this could be a great opportunity, if we want to make a change
to their policy regarding Guide Dog use.
I took the liberty, of asking the NFB Centers, what they do regarding Guide
Dogs, and Julie Deden, has responded.
This is what she says:
Regarding dogs: We love to work with students that use dog guides. They
use their dogs to travel to and from the center each day and of cource use
them on evenings and weekends. The student puts there dog in a classroom,
my office or somewhere where the dog is happy during the day. They see them
on breaks and at lunch time. I tell our students that this is like working
in many ways. The students are required to use their canes all day at the
center. This has always worked out well for the student and their dog.
They truly do develop great cane skills and confidence.
I hope that this helps.
Thanks so much
Julie
