GUIDE DOGS FOR THE BLIND ANNOUNCES NEW CEO
San Rafael, CA The Board of Directors of Guide Dogs for the Blind announced the appointment of Nancy E. S. Gardner as president and CEO. Gardner will begin on October 1, 2007, and replaces retiring CEO Bob Phillips, who has served in that capacity for six years.
Gardner has extensive nonprofit experience and has served as the executive director of North Bay Regional Center (NBRC) for the past 15 years. North Bay Regional Center is a non-profit organization, serving nearly 6,900 persons with developmental disabilities in Sonoma, Solano and Napa Counties with an annual budget of nearly $110 million.
"Although I will greatly miss NBRC and our community, this is an opportunity for me to merge my career passion for supporting persons with disabilities with my love for dogs," Gardner said. "It will be a great honor to lead this stellar organization in continuing to pursue its remarkable mission and its vision to 'use the power of partnering to improve quality of life.'"
Guide Dogs for the Blind was founded in 1942 to aid servicemen blinded in WWII. Today, the organization nurtures and supports more than 2,150 Guide Dog partnerships, offering top-quality dogs, training and additional services free-of-charge. The international non-profit organization is headquartered in San Rafael, with a second campus near Portland, Oregon. It provides services to blind and visually impaired people throughout the United States and Canada and is supported entirely by private contributions.
